The artist J. Elton Marks, with Sparky.
The 90's vibe was about the bold colors from Saturday morning cartoons, Muppets and Sesame Street that became the late 90's "Pop of color." It was about dramatic themes left over from The Cold War in a childhood of super stars, flashing lights and heroic energy. I took my inspiration from my experience in 1990s fashion. I was in New York City, South Beach and Los Angeles working as a makeup artist. My work is a mix of Marvel comics, barbie dolls, and 1980's pop art. Influenced by a life long love of movies, music and science. Everything radiates in a vivid 1990's color palette used to evoke the surf and skate culture of Santa Monica California in the early 80's when I hung out at and around Rip City Skates on Santa Monica Blvd. I would watch the daredevil skaters that were the coolest kids at my new school in stark contrast from the kids in Westchester New York where my family moved from.
